Statsministeren tale til Pan Games og Pan Idræt.
Dear participants at Pangames
Welcome to Copenhagen. As Prime Minister of Denmark, I hope that you will have some wonderful days in our beautiful capital. In Denmark, we are proud to be a country where minorities are met with respect and tolerance. We have a strong tradition of openness, equality and the right to diversity.
25 years ago, Denmark passed a law on registered partnerships. This bill was the first of its kind in the world. In 1999 we introduced the right to adoption. And as one of our first steps, my government seeked to legalize same-sex marriage in 2011.
In this way, a lot has happened since Pan Idræt was formed in 1984. 30 years ago, Pan Idræt was born because a group of gay swimmers were banned from swimming in ordinary swimming clubs. I am happy, that we have come a long way since then. Today, Pan Idræt is part of the Danish club tradition where community spirit and solidarity are key words. 700 members from Pan Idræt are welcoming friends from around the world for a few days of sports. And a festive birthday party, I hope.
Once again. Welcome to Copenhagen - and to all of you in Pan Idræt: Happy birthday. 30 has never looked better.
